John Thomas Billington is a composer / soloist / producer specializing in wind synthesizers, flutes, saxophone, sequencers and sampled sounds. His music is an exciting collage of jazz infused Techno / Dance, Ambient / New Age, and Pop songs. All of the music that Billington produces is done in a home PC based studio using technology that is currently available in the marketplace. In order to harness the technological power now available to individual musicians and remain independent, a modern musician must possess not only musical talent but also the technical ability to creatively learn and use this modern software and hardware technology in a cost-effective fashion. Billington has spent the time to do this. His first album, Tolisha, is a solo effort on which Billington did all the composing, soloing, sequencing, mastering, production, and graphic design. However, technology without musical skill and vision to guide it does not result in a musical product that is pleasing to the ears. The musical skills that Billington brings to the table are soloist capability in wind synthesizer, flute, and saxophone built on years of practice and performance. Basic compositional skills were acquired by studying jazz theory and standards and performing improvisation to the jazz standards in many small cafes and restaurants in the Raleigh, NC area. Of particular importance in Billington's musical vision is the use of new and unusual sampled and created sounds as part of the sonic fabric of his songs and improvisation.
